)I am in the process of researching ways to integrate my ipod 5G into my car stereo (1997 Honda Accord)
What I have so far: Speakers, subs, and amps. Instead of using a standard CD deck, I am going to get a Clarion EQS746 and connect the ipod to that. And of course I will be modding the center console so it all looks pretty
For the ipod part, I want to have a control interface, a line out to the EQS746, and to be able to charge it all at the same time.
There are a few all-in-one solutions for what I want, such as:
The Alpine EX-10, or the Harman Kardon Drive + Play units, which are relatively inexpensive, but I would prefer to use a remote control that works with the actual ipod screen, such as: Rotary Commander, instead of a 3rd party screen with limited features.
How hard would it be for someone like me with limited electrical and programming knowledge to make a remote control (doesn't matter if it's wired or wireless) for the ipod, while still taking line out and charging capabilities from the pin connector? I would like to be able to use a piece of hardware like the Sony Rotary Commander, the controller from the Harman Kardon Drive + Play, or any input hardware device such as game controllers or usb computer input devices. (or even with my dell axim x30 pda)
I have found the pinout diagrams for the ipod, and I know how to get the connector and cables I would need, but other than this, I wouldn't really know where to start trying to mod a piece of hardware to control the ipod.
Has anybody here experimented with this type of stuff, or only used the Ipod Dock Connector software with a pc? I would just get a carputer, but that is way too expensive for me right now.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any info on this.
Ian
