iPhone and My cable

Postby MitchJS » Mon Jul 09, 2007 12:02 pm

well...

I dont have an iPhone, so until I can confirm it my self I will only say the cable will work 99%

reports are that alot of car stereo interfaces are working, so thats the LINGO4 stuff

so id bet that my ipod explorer cable/software will work on the iPhone

i dont know about charging, just need someone to try it

Apple says the dock is compatable with the ipod...
but there are some things, like when you plug in the accessory, there will be a popup on the phone asking you to switch to airplane mode because there might be rf noise on the audio....
but you have an option to keep it on

also, VIDEO doesnt seem to comeout of the iPhone!

now some people want to HACK the iphone
appearently there is a diag console
the accessory ID resistor is (reported to be) 6.8k
of course my cable isnt designed for that
so, one would need to carefully open the connector housing
and change the resistor from 470k to 6.8k.

unless i get an iphone, or some reliable confromation, i wont offer any 6.8k options

here is a terrible post

charging via Mitch's serial cable

Postby udecker » Thu Jul 19, 2007 4:12 pm

Be extremely cautious when charging. The iPhone is MUCH less tolerant than the iPods were with regards to voltage/amp ranges.

I fried my iPhone by plugging in the same power adapter I had been using before on my iPod with success. The screen went immediately black. I unplugged the iPhone immediately from the cable (30-pin AND power), and the iPhone continued to get very VERY hot, until I could no longer physically touch it! (With nothing plugged into it!). I have Mitch's original cable (with resistor dip-switches). And now I have a new replacement iPhone :-)

Serial side works, however.

I would imagine that giving the iPhone EXACTLY the 5 Volts - 1 Amp that the power brick provides would work, but don't quote me on it, since I'm not going to try and give power to the iPhone again, except through the dock. (I don't think AppleCare would believe me if I brought in another dead iPhone with the exact same problem as the first one!)

how much voltage did u stick in to it???

12vdc should be fine, it really does work with like 99% of the IPOD dock connector accessories

maybe your wall wart is putting out more then u think > 20 V unregulated

i tend to use only REGULATED supplys for testing stuff at 12v

It was a 12v 0.5amp adapter that I used (successfully with all the iPod's I've owned, btw). But the iPhone did NOT like it.

I will try to use the serial cable without power this evening when I arrive back in town.

Question, using the iPod Explorer cable/software with the iPhone was anyone successful in receiving the current song title/album/artist etc?

YEP, it works just like a ipod

the base LINGO 4 is supported

course any new commands are prob authenticated (thank you apple) and need a IC from them
