the uart R

mic is something i dont really care about

its LINGO 1

Code: Select all
Begin recording session 0x00
End recording session 0x01
Begin playback session 0x02
End playback session 0x03
Reserved for future use 0x04 – 0xFF

Note: The microphone lingo is not supported by the iPod Mini.

so identify as LINGO 1

then build lingo 1 commands as above

ie...

begin record

$FF,$55, $02, $01, $00, $FD

were $FF,$55 is header
$02 is length
$01 is lingo 1 cmd
$00 is cmd (begine rec)
$FD is checksum

I have a iPod 5g and a Windows XP Pro machine. I ordered 2 unsoldered ipod male connectors today. I just want to wire a mic and be able to record onto my ipod. I'm sorry but I'm a noob at making assesorys for my ipod. i'm not sure what lingo 1 is or how I give the command to my ipod. Perhaps you could elaborate?

then build lingo 1 commands as above

ie...

begin record

$FF,$55, $02, $01, $00, $FD

were $FF,$55 is header
$02 is length
$01 is lingo 1 cmd
$00 is cmd (begine rec)
$FD is checksum

I understand how you got that. Would Begin Playback Session be
$FF,$55, $02, $01, $02, $FD ?

Anywho after I have that string, how do I send it to my ipod?
If I bought one of your $35 kits, could I use iPod explorer to send it?
Thanks

You would send it with a microcontroller.

You could send it with a PC, to test.

IMO if you want to develop your own accessories, or use the iPod as a recorder on principal, Mitch's kits would probably be fine.

If you just want a voice recorder, just buy one. I'd recommend one of those cheap Flash MP3 players, as they typically have a recorder.

What i want to do is bootleg concerts onto my ipod. So a premade assesory wouldnt work (the mic is too small). How much is one of these microcontrollers? Could I just buy one of Mitch's kits and then send the signal to my ipod and just keep it in voice recorder mode? Does the headphone jack also act as a microphone jack? Mitch's kit will work with a 5g and the 5g ipods can go into voice memo mode right?

Sorry I'm asking so many questions, i'm really new at this an di really appreciate you guys helping me. By the way the concert is October 20th so I don't have much time.

spingk, nope to the begin plaback, its "$FF,$55, $02, $01, $02, $F8", u need to calculate the checksum

if you really want to mess with the ipod, but my ipod explorer....

if you just want a voice recorder, buy one, like cks2006 says, i think he is right on :)

it all depends on what your trying to achieve

Like I said, I'm trying to record concerts so that small mic in a voice recorder would be too small. How do I calculate the checksum? And can I just put my iPod into voice memo mode in iPod explorer then leave it in that mode? And just to clarify, all of this will work with a 5g right?

i dont know... like i said before i dont care about voice recording, in my opinion the ipod shouldnt even do voice recording

add all the bytes up in the payload, and then $0100 - bytes = chksum

Just wanted to share some experimental findings with USB charging AND serial lines. I have all 4 USB lines + 3 Serial lines attached to the connector. My application doesn't have 12v for charging over the firewire pins. My resistor value of 200k Ohms puts the ipod into charging mode and allows serial control. The ipod reports itself as a USB HID device to the operating system. Other docks use 500-550k Ohms, but they are working some other magic that gets the ipod to start charging and prevents it from going into USB storage mode. I can't figure out what they are doing. Anyway, I've tested 200k Ohms + serial control with: Classic 5G, 6G; Nano 2G, 3G; iPod Touch. I'm still testing this stuff and will post anything else that I discover.

i think 500kish (470k prob work), since voice memo i think is just a serial protocol
its another lingo

i havent really ever looked at this...

Any updates to the table for resistor values for the iPhone 3G? specifically anyone measured what the iPhone 3G dock is setup with?

Just capital to allotment some beginning allegation with USB charging AND consecutive lines. I accept all 4 USB curve + 3 Consecutive curve absorbed to the connector. My appliance doesn't accept 12v for charging over the firewire pins. My resistor amount of 200k Ohms puts the ipod into charging approach and allows consecutive control.
